PAU AND GADVASU CONDUCT TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR WOMEN IN DAIRY SECTOR
Jan6,2023 | MEENU GALHOTRA |The Department of Extension Education and Communication Management, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in collaboration with the College of Dairy Science and Technology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, conducted a five-day training programme for the women in dairy sector at the village Himanyupura. The training, which was attended by 30 rural women engaged in dairy at household level, was funded by the National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi. Dr RS Sethi, Dean, College of Dairy Science and Technology, who was the chief guest, motivated the participants to start a new enterprise by value addition of milk. He emphasized that value addition was the future of economic growth of the country which could increase the income of farming families. He also congratulated the participants and the organizers on the successful completion of the training programme. Dr Kiranjot Sidhu, Head of the Department, said that five-day trainings were being conducted in five villages of Ludhiana district under the NCW funded project. Different experts from PAU and College of Dairy Science and Technology, GADVASU conducted lectures and demonstrations on various aspects of dairy sector, she told. Dr Ritu Mittal Gupta, Scientist, while throwing light on the importance of entrepreneurship for rural women in dairy sector, discussed the economic benefits of adding value through processing. Dr Preeti Sharma, Scientist, informed that the training programme covered different dairy related topics such as value addition of milk and milk products; preparation of paneer, dahi, khoa, mozrella cheese, whey drink, flavored milk, etc.; milk processing enterprises involving the use of machinery; FSSAI rules and regulations; packaging material; marketing strategies and bank schemes for loaning purpose. Later, participants were facilitated with milk processing kits to enable them to start an enterprise.
